6. Everything New about G7

David Hunter
Thursday, Feb. 18 • 12:30–1:45

G7 is a specification which has gained a tremendous amount of momentum around the world because it provides a shared visual appearance between any output device and any substrate across any continent. And it is easy to do, once you know the steps. This session will review the steps and help you understand the new changes in the G7 Program.

The new changes include three levels of G7 conformance: new targets, new reference conditions, and how to keep it straight. This session will tell you everything you need to know to be G7 conforming.

18. The E-Factor for Print Buyers: Bridging the Gap between Expectation & Results

David Hunter
Friday, Feb. 19 • 10:30–11:45

Do you have an expectation for your printed result? Of course you do, but it has never been quantified. The “E-Factor” quantifies your Expectation of color match between any two prints, such as your proof and the final product.

Printing consumption has declined because customers are not satisfied with their results, so they get frustrated and stop printing as much. By introducing the E-Factor concept, customers will know ahead of time that their print will meet their expectations and they will be more apt to print more!

Part of the challenge in the print industry has been the lack of standards and the lack of defining the precision and accuracy of their devices. The E-Factor defines the precision and accuracy for a given process and quantifies it as a number that relates to Delta E.

To put this into perspective:
•    IDEAlliance Certified Proofers have an E-Factor of 2
•    IDEAlliance G7 ColorSpace qualified printers have an E-Factor of 3

Every output process can be quantified with an E-Factor. The same device with a different operator may have a different E-Factor. Same device with different paper, may have a different E-Factor. It is important to qualify the expected result. This session will show you how.
